2024 to 2025: Preparing for the next wave of privacy regulations

2024 marked a turning point in global regulation, with transformative privacy, AI and cybersecurity laws reshaping the compliance landscape. From the EU AI Act and updates to privacy laws in Israel and Australia, to the continued expansion of US State-level privacy legislation, organizations worldwide faced a wave of change.

As we enter 2025, the momentum continues. State Privacy Laws will come into effect in four US States on January 1, 2025, followed by New Jersey on January 15. In the EU, the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) enters effect for financial services entities on January 17, 2025. Shortly after, on February 2, provisions on prohibited AI under the EU AI Act will take effect, setting a new benchmark for ethical AI use.
