Beyond Twitter and Meta: What’s next for news on social media?

So you’ve been doomscrolling about the potential impact of the changes at Meta and Twitter on journalism for weeks… now what?

Join the Online News Association and the American Press Institute for a participatory conversation with your journalism peers to discuss what the mass layoffs at Meta and Twitter — particularly the journalism partnership units — mean for news organizations.

We’ll start with a quick look at what we’ve been hearing from newsrooms so far about how the changes have impacted their work, and discuss case studies on ways they are adapting. Then, we’ll move into facilitated breakout groups to dive into the biggest topics on your mind, including:

  • loss of funding
  • distribution challenges
  • impacts on community engagement
  • connecting with underrepresented communities
  • strategies for freelancers and journalists who rely on social platforms for identifying opportunities

At the end, we’ll check back in to share takeaways from each breakout group.

This event will be participatory — not a webinar — so you’ll have the opportunity to contribute throughout the 75 minutes we’re together.
